I do agree with all of the ideas you have presented in your post. They’re really convincing and will definitely work. Still, the posts are very short for newbies. Could you please extend them a little from next time? Thanks for the post.

Why not use a simple solder pick? It’s cheap and it’s made especially for soldering – and it doesn’t burn like wood.

I am having trouble with my soldering paste. It is a soft silver solder paste with flux included. When I use my torch on the pieces I am soldering the paste doesn’t work, rather it turns to dust. What am I doing wrong??? This is the second tube I have ordered: the first from a company on Amazon and the second from Beaducation.

It’s possible your torch might not be hot enough or your metal too thick if you’re using a butane torch. I’ve found my solder paste will do that on thicker than 20g sheet of sterling. Make sure your piece is clean by pickling well if you’ve applied solder and it dried up before it flowed. Keep trying! Don’t give up ;)
